Why Batteries?

Updated: May 4

Simply put, GAINTECH Capital has set its sights on making an impact in an industry that is undeniably relevant; renewables and renewable energy. We are starting with batteries for a couple of reasons. For starters, batteries are what we know best! The team we’ve put together has a skill set that can really help the companies we choose for our portfolio succeed. Our team has a depth of knowledge and experience in battery chemistry, material science, cell fabrication, production and manufacturing that no venture capital firm, (to our knowledge), has on staff. When we choose to invest, it is because we have thoroughly evaluated the core technology of a company. It means that the team believes that the investment has an excellent chance of fitting into the ecosystem. That brings us nicely to the second part: The market for batteries is extraordinary. All you need to do is look around your immediate environment; where you live, where you work, literally everywhere, so many of the things we use, both actively and passively, rely on batteries. There is, perhaps, nothing more relevant to our transition towards an electrified world than having robust, safe, and reliable power storage. Grandview Research has estimated that the global battery market, as of 2019 is approximately $108 billion USD and will grow at an annual rate of nearly 15% through 2027 and beyond. That means that in a few short years, batteries in the global economy could reach well above $300 billion per year and could even approach $500 billion by the end of the decade. Benjamin Franklin is quoted as saying “An investment in knowledge pays the best interest.” At GAINTECH, we know batteries and the materials and components that go into making them better. We are excited to be making these investments in the battery technologies that, we believe, will shape the future and, at the same time, will bring our partners the greatest yield.
